The Shabbat, The Rest of The Most High – Part 1

What is the meaning of the Shabbat day in the eyes of the most High? And does it still have significance today?

The shabbat (or sabbath) calls to mind when the most High ended all his works of creation and rested on the seventh day. I thought I should also share this because in order to have understanding of the operation of the relationship with the most High, the message about the shabbat is foundational.

Although it looks simple to understand shabbat on surface level, only if we go deeper can we come to understand the essence of it spiritually as the most High is the spirit. The bible defines the Shabbat as “rest”. Additionally, we also obtain the following spiritual definitions: “rise” or “made whole” or “being loosed” or “set at Liberty/ free” from our own works. These are some of the areas that we will explore.

We enter into rest as our Father rested on the seventh day after he his creation. Now rest is the keyword that guides us in understanding the shabbat with deeper meaning including, yet more than the day. The rest of the most High is further than reaching a conclusion that the most High rested by doing absolutely nothing. Rather, it means having finished his creation he focused on other works, as HaMashiach expounded on it.

Resting in the works of righteousness

The book of John 5:8-9 & 17 read as follows:

8 YashaYah said unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Shabbat.
17 But YashaYah answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work.

Luke 4:16

I quote YashaYah HaMashiach because, just like Moses and the rest of children of Yasharah’la, the keeping shabbat was a custom among them.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Shabbat day, and stood up for to read.

Christ is Lord of the Shabbat.

Matthew 12:8

For the Son of man is Lord even of the Shabbat day.

Likewise to us, it also does not mean that we must rest and do nothing, but rest from own works and do specific works that glorify the most high e.g. healing from sickness and infirmities obtained from learning the word

Shabbat – Rest from the heart

Luke 13:10,12 & 16

10 And he was teaching in one of on the shabbat.
12 "And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity [own work]
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hand bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Shabbat day?

Now this is the most important essence of shabbat, the shabbat of the HEART & SOUL, notice how he mentions “labour” and “heavy laden” as works of sin or unrighteousness.

Matthew 11:28-29

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden [sins], and I will give you rest [shabbat]
29 Take my yoke [laws of the most High] upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

There is shabbat day as commonly known. Additionally, there are shabbat (of) months & shabbat (of) years. They all have a meaning, the physical rest from work symbolise rest from sin and its burdens (Hebrews 12:1), rest from sicknesses of the heart in order to repent and receive remission of sins to be eventually reconciled to the most High’s laws for us Yasharah’la.

Rest and true holiness

In a nut shell, keeping shabbat day on the seventh day helps, however, only if, your sins have been shed away by YashaYah HaMashiach (Romans 4:7-8) and living a DAILY sinless and holy life.

Consequently, the opposite is true, the shabbat day does not help you if you are still indulging a life of sin.

Abstaining from kindling fire to warm food up or create stove fire, restricting walking distance, refraining from work and attending church service on the seventh day and yet still transgressing the most High’s laws is not the full package of the shabbat and by so doing one breaks the shabbat of the heart by the burden of the works of sin in his heart and soul and essence of shabbat becomes gravely misunderstood.
